A Utah man was arrested by State Police at Logan Airport after deplaning a Delta
Airlines flight from Salt Lake City Saturday.
Grant Smith, 47, a University of Utah professor, was apprehended after it was reported
that he had allegedly been viewing child pornography on his lap top computer while
seated in his first class accommodations on the plane.
Smith was arraigned in East Boston District Court Monday morning.
The University of Utah has suspended Smith from his duties and placed him on
administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation now ongoing with regard
to the child pornography found by State Police on his lap top.
He is an adjunct professor of chemical engineering at the university.
A passenger on the Delta flight seated behind Smith apparently took a photograph with
a cell phone of Smith viewing child pornography, sent the image to relatives in Arizona,
who then contacted police.
Bail was set at $15,000.
