Boston Logan International Airport passenger numbers have increased over the past twelve consecutive months, actually establishing a new June record in 2011.
During June 2011, 2,694,633 passengers passed through Logan compared to 2,588,310 in June 2007, setting the new record.

On a year-to-date basis, Logan passenger numbers increased by 7.7 percent from 12,870,688 in 2010 to 13,864,961 in 2011.
There are several reasons why passenger numbers have continued to grow on a monthly and year-to-date bases, according to Massport.
“An upswing in the economy certainly helped and could be the main reason numbers have continued to jump in the right direction,” Phil Orlandella, Director of Media Relations/Logan told the Times.
“Having seven low cost carriers operating out of the airport has contributed greatly to the increase in travel,” he said.
Logan’s low cost carriers are: Jet Blue, Southwest, Air Tran, Spirit, Sun Country, Virgin America and Porter Airlines.
Orlandella noted that other contributions to the rise in passenger numbers include: lower all around fares, ample parking, improved roadway access to and from Logan, and confidence in airport security.
“While security and public safety rule at Logan, customer service and convenience are an important part of the airport experience,” Orlandella said.
“Massport’s long range goal is to hopefully provide the traveling public with as many choices of flights to as many destinations as possible out of Logan,” he said.
Logan recently announced service to Tokyo, Japan on Japan Airlines and continues to attempt to develop other domestic and international airlines to provide service to and from Boston.
Currently, Logan has service to 31 international and 72 domestic destinations.
Logan also established a new twelve consecutive month passenger record as 28,463,235 million passengers found their way through the airport from July 2010 through June 2011.
