Sculptor Jonathan ‘Jobi’ Bouchard of Montreal works on top of the castle tower as an airplane descends into Logan Airport. The week-long Sand Sculpting Festival drew more than 300,000 to Revere Beach.

Just a stone’s throw from Logan Airport this past weekend was the Revere Beach National Sand Sculpting Festival – drawing more than 300,000 people and providing some pretty nice views for planes descending into the airport from the north.

One of the festival’s major sponsors was JetBlue Airlines – which promoted the festival for several weeks during its in-flight movie.

The festival featured 10 master sand sculptors from all over the world competing for prizes and creating some intriguing and beautiful works of art using only sand. In addition, there was a massive, 20-foot tall central sculpture that all of the sculptors worked on, and family friendly activities surrounding the event.

The event has become one of the top summer activities on the East Coast, and dubbed one of the best beach events in the country by the Los Angeles Times. It is put on by the Revere Beach Partnership and promoted by Conventures of Boston.

Make plans to fly into Logan Airport next July in order to take in next year’s Festival at Revere Beach.
