FSS Team Exceeds the Standards and Wins Top Honors

May 10, 2011

“Exceeding the Standards with People & Technology” is the tagline of nationwide aviation service provider Flight Services & Systems (“FSS”).  FSS’ team at the Boston Logan International Airport far exceeded the organization’s standard with resounding accolades and was chosen as FSS’ Station of the Year.  Team FSS BOS was chosen amongst twenty-five active airport locations and was selected by an executive leadership panel on specific year end goals and areas of improvement.  In addition, FSS BOS Delta Air Lines Manager, John Cardinale, was chosen FSS’ Leader of the Year.  Both honors were officially recognized at the organization’s Services Day Celebration, a day dedicated to celebrating the organization’s founding and future.

Amongst Team BOS’ accomplishments in 2010, team FSS BOS succeeded to achieving the following:

* 15% improvement yr/yr for employee turnover

* Significant improvement in customer service amongst the BOS airline customers

* The implementation of monthly employee meetings for all terminals, supervisor meetings and all management monthly meetings

* The implementation of written action plans

* The development of strong, local leadership through the development of BOS team members

* The implementation of new, enhanced training programs

* Retaining vitally important customers

* Growing the BOS station with new customer and new opportunities

When asked why John Cardinale should be chosen FSS’ Leader of Year, Lisa Varotsis, BOS General Manager stated, “John is a true leader. John’s aptitude and attitude is unsurpassed. He completes all responsibilities in a timely and professional manner. He is diligent in completing all required safety, personnel, and HR paperwork. John has demonstrated a dedication to all customers of FSS. John in times of extreme needs has been known to jump onto the Jet Blue computer system and assist with checking in passengers. John is a shining example of leadership — dedication to the customer, to the highest of service levels and to his team.”

Executive leadership including Bobby Weitzel, FSS President, and Mark Exeler, FSS EVP of Airport Operations, celebrated with the entire FSS BOS team with lunch and the presentations of monetary and recognition trophies.  This recognition is one amongst a list of recent high profile successes for the BOS team including the awarding of the Delta Air Lines aircraft cleaning contract which will go into effect in May, 2011.

When asked about the success of the team, Bobby Weitzel stated, “Being chosen FSS Station of the Year is a huge honor for our organization.  This honor truly reflects the abilities of the entire local leadership team.  The best stations are those who are led by great leaders who are foremost committed to their customers and provide exceptional service delivery.  Lisa Varotsis and her team are exceptional leaders, and I expect great things to continue for team FSS BOS for a very long time.  Leadership truly makes the difference.”
